Free Geek Central Florida takes in older and/or broken computer equipment, rebuilts and refurbishes it, loads Open Source Systems and software on them, and gives them to people who can't afford computers. Our goals: - Keep computer equipment in use as long as possible.
- Reduce eWaste. Keep dangerous computer parts out of landfills.
- Support Open Source Software
- Decrease the Digital Divide.
Right now, we focus on the reuse part of our mission. As we grow, we'll be able to take on more recycling efforts. One of the best ways to learn about us is to watch the video below.
Free Geek Central Florida is working toward the model set by Free Geek Portland . Since Free Geek Central Florida does not yet have a central location, we don't have a 'build' program. Our current build program is done by experienced volunteers, and students working toward an A+ certification. If you need a computer, contact us, and we'll get you one.
